Some Crisp Thoughts on Fuzzy Logic

چکیده

In the past year I have been inundated with articles on fuzzy logic as well as encouraged to use it for control systems. After reading some articles on fuzzy logic control, listening to a seminar by Zadeh, and attending a one day course on Intelligent Control, I started forming an opinion about how fuzzy logic control works. I believe that there are some fundamental pieces of information not provided in most fuzzy logic control papers. When one realizes what those pieces of information are, one gets a different opinion about how and when fuzzy logic control works and when it is more practical than conventional control. I will first state some opinions on fuzzy logic and try to justify them. Once this is done, I will return to some of the articles written by proponents of fuzzy logic and use the previous understanding to shed some light on what is really responsible for the improved system performance.

Our Reasoning is Clearly Fuzzy, so Why Is Crisp Logic So Often Adequate?

Our reasoning is clearly fuzzy, so why is crisp logic so often adequate? We explain this phenomenon by showing that in the presence of noise, an arbitrary continuous (e.g., fuzzy) system can be well described by its discrete analog. However, as the description gets more accurate, the continuous description becomes necessary. 1 Formulation of the Problem Fuzzy logic is needed. Our reasoning is c...

Tractability of the Crisp Representations of Tractable Fuzzy Description Logics

An important line of research within the field of fuzzy DLs is the computation of an equivalent crisp representation of a fuzzy ontology. In this short paper, we discuss the relation between tractable fuzzy DLs and tractable crisp representations. This relation heavily depends on the family of fuzzy operators considered. Introduction. Despite the undisputed success of ontologies, classical onto...

Compatible extensions and consistent closures: a fuzzy approach

In this paper ∗–compatible extensions of fuzzy relations are studied, generalizing some results obtained by Duggan in case of crisp relations. From this general result are obtained as particular cases fuzzy versions of some important extension theorems for crisp relations (Szpilrajn, Hansson, Suzumura). Two notions of consistent closure of a fuzzy relation are introduced.

Mamdani Fuzzy Logic Controller with Mobile Agents for Matching

The task of a standard fuzzy logic controller is to find a crisp control action from the fuzzy rulebase and from a set of crisp inputs. In this paper we propose an extension of this type of reasoning using Mobile Agents which works with crisp data, intervals and/or linguistic terms as inputs and with various matching methods. For any matching one obtain a crisp value as output using Slave Agent...

Fuzzy logic and probability

In this paper we deal with a new approach to probabilistic reasoning in a logical frame work. Nearly almost all logics of probabil ity that have been proposed in the litera ture are based on classical two-valued logic. After making clear the differences between fuzzy logic and probability theory, here we propose a fuzzy logic of probability for which completeness results (in a probabilistic ...
